Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore Preparation

Course Overview

The Yachtmaster Coastal and Offshore preparation preparation are designed for experienced skippers seeking internationally recognized qualifications. The courses develop advanced skills and prepare candidates for the rigorous RYA/MCA Yachtmaster examinations, focusing on leadership, seamanship, and navigation under pressure.

Course Content:

• Passage planning, including tidal calculations and weather considerations
• Advanced navigation techniques using electronic and traditional methods
• Boat handling in various conditions, including at night
• Safety management and emergency procedures
• Leadership and crew management during extended passages

Course Outcomes / Abilities at the End of the Preparation:

• Yachtmaster Coastal: Ability to skipper a vessel up to 60 miles offshore day or night.
• Yachtmaster Offshore: Competence to skipper a vessel on extended offshore passages in unfamiliar waters. Master 200gt and on voyages <150nm

Course Details:

Prerequisites

• Yachtmaster Coastal: 30 days at sea, 800 nautical miles, 2 days as skipper, and 12 night hours
• Yachtmaster Offshore: 50 days at sea, 2,500 nautical miles, 5 passages over 60 miles (2 as skipper), and experience in tidal waters.
