Course Overview

The Yachtmaster Coastal and Offshore preparation courses are designed for experienced skippers seeking internationally recognized qualifications. The courses develop advanced skills and prepare candidates for the rigorous RYA/MCA Yachtmaster examinations, focusing on leadership, seamanship, and navigation under pressure.

Course Content:

• Passage planning, including tidal calculations and weather considerations
• Advanced navigation techniques using electronic and traditional methods
• Boat handling in various conditions, including at night
• Safety management and emergency procedures
• Leadership and crew management during extended passages

Course Outcomes / Abilities at the End of the Course:

• Yachtmaster Coastal: Ability to skipper a vessel up to 60 miles offshore day or night.
• Yachtmaster Offshore: Competence to skipper a vessel on extended offshore passages in unfamiliar waters.

Course Details:

Prerequisites

• Yachtmaster Coastal: 30 days at sea, 800 nautical miles, 2 days as skipper, and 12 night hours
• Yachtmaster Offshore: 50 days at sea, 2,500 nautical miles, 5 passages over 60 miles (2 as skipper), and experience in tidal waters.
